The origin of Bosses Day dates back to 1958. Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Illinois, registered it with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Haroski chose the date because it was her father’s birthday. Who was her boss? ….her father. Be the first to show your Boss just how much you appreciate them this Bosses Day, October 16th.

The air is cooling and the leaves are preparing to change! Kids are returning to school and new shows are on our Televisions. The Fall Season is upon us! Autumn official starts on September 22nd, however no matter where you look the season is already changing, especially here at Casas Adobes!
Most of us “Arizonans” can only remember when Fall brought trees shed their leaves and changing their color to a reddish hue and fall to the ground. While most of us don’t miss having to rake leaves, it’s easy to miss the vibrant colors that are abundant up north this season. Such colored leaves have come to be colloquially called “fall foliage.”
We hope this season when you are decorating your home to reflect the beauty of the changing seasons that you’ll honor us by placing one of our Autumn Designs in your home. Classic Cornucopias, Seasonal Arrangements and Harvest Baskets are a standard, however if you want something unique keep in mind our Autumn Harvest Bouquet designed eloquently in our exclusive Lenox Celebration Gift Bag.

The WTC Memorial
The September 11, 2001 attacks (often referred to as 9/11—pronounced “nine eleven”) consisted of a series of coordinated suicide terrorist attacks upon the United States, predominantly targeting civilians, carried out on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
That morning, 19 men affiliated with al-Qaeda[1] hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot. Two planes (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (One and Two). Both towers collapsed within two hours. The pilot of the third team crashed a plane into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Excluding the 19 hijackers, a confirmed 2,973 people died and another 24 remain missing as a result of these attacks.

The impetus for a National Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.
Happy Grandparents Day!!

The world famous “Murano Art Glass,” as an art style, originated in Venice, Italy in the 15th century. True Murano art is always 100% handblown , using top quality silica and very expensive ingredients.
Murano’s glassmakers were soon the island’s most prominent citizens. By the 14th century, glassmakers were allowed to wear swords, enjoyed immunity from prosecution by the Venetian state and found their daughters married into Venice’s most affluent families. However glassmakers were not allowed to leave the Republic. Many craftsmen took this risk and set up glass furnaces in surrounding cities and as far afield as England and the Netherlands. Click here to see more for sale today.
Murano’s glassmakers held a monopoly on quality glassmaking for centuries, developing or refining many technologies including crystalline glass, enamelled glass (smalto), glass with threads of gold (aventurine), multicoloured glass (millefiori), milk glass (lattimo), and imitation gemstones made of glass. Today, the artisans of Murano are still employing these century-old techniques, crafting everything from contemporary art glass and glass jewellery to Murano glass chandeliers and wine stoppers.
Today, Murano is home to the Museo Vetrario or Glass Museum in the Palazzo Giustinian, which holds displays on the history of glassmaking as well as glass samples ranging from Egyptian times through the present day.
Murano Glass was produced in great quantities in the 1950’s and 1960s for export and for tourists.
